Issue:

Microsoft (MS) has announced the retirement of the MSOnline PowerShell module. As stated in the MS Entra Blog article below:

“MSOnline PowerShell will retire (and stop working) between early April 2025 and late May 2025.” 

Impact:

Vault Solution Folder Sync uses MSOnline to get user’s Exchange Online Licenses. This retirement will impact customers who are using Vault Solutions Folder Sync in ‘Hybrid’ or ‘Office 365’ configurations. Customers using ‘On-Prem’ configuration should not be impacted.  

• What to Expect: Folders for users who are on Exchange Online will not sync into Arctera Insight environment.  

Any new/modified folders for users who are in Office 365 will not be synced into Arctera Insight environment. Any new mail will not get mapped to folders and will show under the default All Mails section.  

For Hybrid configurations, this should only impact Folder Sync functionality for Mailboxes on Exchange Online. For mailboxes on-Prem, this should continue to work.  
 

Solution for Customers using Vault Solutions Folder Sync in ‘Office 365’ configuration - Migrate to Arctera Exchange Online Folder Sync. 

                The ‘Office 365’ configuration in Vault Folder Sync is configured as below:

1. If not already enabled, please contact Arctera Technical Support so that the ‘Exchange Online Folder Synchronization’ secondary service can be enabled. This can be checked from within the Administration console by navigating to Configuration | Services:
   
   
2. If not selected already, an Administrator will need to choose ‘Using Microsoft Office 365’ under Configuration | User Management | Manage account provisioning remotely within the Management Console. 
   
   
3. The Administrator will need to configure Folder Sync App Credentials and a Schedule under Archive Collectors-> Exchange Online. They will also need to enable existing individual users for Online Folder Sync

Note: Currently, Folder Sync Online can only be enabled for accounts which are Provisioned by Office 365 sync.   


Solution for Customers using Vault Solutions Folder Sync in ‘Hybrid’ configuration - Configure Arctera Exchange Online Folder Sync to sync folders for mailboxes in Office 365 and continue to use Vault Solutions Folder Sync for on-Prem mailboxes.
 

                            The ‘Hybrid’ configuration in Vault Folder Sync is configured as below:

1. Perform the steps under ‘Solution for Customers using Vault Solutions Folder Sync in ‘Office 365’ configuration’ to configure sync for online mailboxes in Arctera Insight 
2. Continue to use Vault Solutions Folder Sync to sync on-Prem mailbox folders in On-Prem configuration so on-Prem user mailbox folders can be synced. 

Solution for Customers using Vault Solutions Folder Sync in ‘On-Prem’ configuration – No Impact and no action required.
