Summary:

In 2018, Microsoft announced the cessation of feature updates for Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Exchange Online, directing developers toward Microsoft Graph. In September 2023, Microsoft finalized this retirement path, confirming that all EWS requests from non-Microsoft applications accessing Exchange Online will be actively blocked starting October 1, 2026.

Arctera Engineering and Product Management teams are actively managing this transition. While there is no immediate impact on daily operations across the Arctera Unified Platform, customer action is required for tenants not configured to use Azure AD registered app configuration.

Impact:

• Arctera Unified Platform: Core platform operations and current functionalities remain unaffected. Internal assessment is underway to identify and remediate any remaining EWS dependencies via standard production deployment schedules across all data centers.

• Exchange Online Sync Deployment Action Required: Customers using Exchange Online Sync under legacy authentication configurations must migrate to the Azure AD Register App Configuration. Environments that fail to complete this transition prior to October 1, 2026, may experience a complete loss of synchronization capabilities.

Solution:

• Audit your current Exchange Online Sync - Credential Management settings to confirm your authentication model.

• If currently using Powershell credential + Exchange service credential access, immediately update to the Azure AD registered app configuration.
