When logged in to Arctera Surveillance, the Review tab is not visible. When selecting a Department, only the Properties menu item may be visible. Most or all of the Department's other menu items, such as Monitored Employees, Searches, Export, Role Assignment, etc., are not visible.
Access to a function in Surveillance requires one or more Permissions which must be assigned to a user via a Role. A Role is simply a grouping of Permissions that are needed to perform certain functions. Roles are created under Application | Roles and have two scopes: Application and Department. Scopes are where the Role will be used or assigned.
Application Roles are assigned only at the Application level and contain those Permissions that are need for overall administration of the Surveillance application. Such Application Permissions include Modify System Configuration, Create Departments and Manage Employees. Department Roles are assigned only within Departments and contain those Permissions that are needed to provide functionality within a Department. Such Department Permissions include Configure Department Properties, Add Monitored Employees and Review Messages. Once Application Roles have been created, they are assigned to the appropriate users under the Application's Role Assignment tab; similarly, Department Roles are assigned to the appropriate users under each Department's Role Assignment tab.
If a user is not assigned to an Application Role or Department Role containing the specific Permission(s) required to perform a function, that function will not be visible to that user. For example, if a Department scope Role is assigned to a user with the Review Messages Permission but not the Search Capture Permission, that user will see the Review tab at the Application level but will not see the Searches menu item within the Department.
If you are the Department's Owner or are assigned the User Admin Role in the Department, the Properties menu item under a Department should be visible but the Review tab and/or any of the other Department menu items may not be not visible. Please follow these steps:
1. In the left navigation pane, click Departments.
2. Search for and select the Department in which you require a Role Assignment.
3. In the Role Assignment tab, click Add User.
4. Search for and select one or multiple users. To select multiple adjacent users, hold down the 'Shift' key and click the first and the last name in the range. To select multiple, non-adjacent users, hold down the 'Ctrl' key and click the required names.
5. Click Save.
6. Under User and Groups, select the first newly added user and click Add Roles.
7. Assign Department-specific Roles as needed. To select multiple adjacent Roles, hold down the 'Shift' key and click the first and the last name in the range. To select multiple, non-adjacent Roles, hold down the 'Ctrl' key and click the required names.
8. Click Save.
9. Log off then log back on to make the changes effective.
If you are not the Department's Owner or are not assigned the User Admin Role in the Department, but you are assigned the System Admin or App User Admin Application Role, you should be able to see the Department's Properties menu item. In order to gain access to the Department, you will need to be assigned to a Department Role. Please follow these steps:
1. In the left navigation pane, click Departments.
2. Search for and select the Department in which you require a Role Assignment.
3. Review the Department's Properties menu item. Determine the Department Owner by reviewing the Owner property.

4. Contact the Owner and request they assign you the appropriate Role(s), as above.
If the Department Owner is no longer available, or you are permitted by your company's business processes to do so, you could assume the Department's ownership, as follows:
1. Click on Edit Department.2. Select your account as the new Owner of Department and click Save.

3. Log off then log back on to make the changes effective..
4. Select the Department and review the new menu items. The Role Assignment menu item should now be visible. Assign the appropriate Role(s), as above.
If you are not assigned the System Admin or App User Admin Application Role, please contact the Department's Owner and request they assign you the appropriate Role(s).
