No error message is displayed. However, when a search includes more than 500,000 items, only the first 500,000 emails are placed on hold. This results in a discrepancy between the Case Summary search results and the actual number of items under hold.
This behavior is by design. The system currently limits the number of items that can be placed on hold in a single search to 500,000.
To ensure all relevant items are placed on legal hold:
Narrow the search scope using date ranges or other criteria to reduce each search result set to fewer than 500,000 items.
Perform multiple searches within the same case, applying the legal hold to each result set until all targeted items are included.
In the Arctera eDiscovery portal, search-level legal holds do not apply to more than 500,000 emails within a single case.
