Storage Expiry, also known as the "Retention Task", scans all mail to determine if it's eligible for deletion. Eligibility is based on the age and governing Retention Policy. This date is calculated using the sent/receive date of the message.
This is not noteworthy for most messages, as most are journaled and archived immediately upon sending. However, this is important for imported mail, as the life expectancy for these messages would change.
For example: A 9-month old message is imported into Arctera Unified Platform, and falls under a Retention Policy of 1 year (12 months). If Retention (Storage Expiry) is enabled, then the message will be deleted by the Retention task after residing in the archive for only 3 months.
Storage Expiry respects Sent/Received date rather than Archived Date
